Seattle Public Schools IUOE Local 302 Members,
As you know, the current Union dues structure (which remains unchanged from the previous Local 609 dues structure) is a flat monthly rate set according to your job classification. Unfortunately, an inequitable feature of the current system is that some of the lowest paid workers pay more in Union dues (expressed as a percentage of their wages) than the highest paid workers. Put another way, those who can least afford it pay the highest percentage, while some of those who make the most pay the least percentage. It is time to change this inequitable dues structure.
The decision has been made to, over a period of time, bring the dues structure into conformity with Local 302, which is 1.75% of gross wages. This structure is more equitable because those who make less pay less, while those who make more pay more.
The dues structure change will take place starting in your December 2025 paycheck. Dues will be converted to 1.15% of gross wages. Annually thereafter, in your October paycheck, dues will be increased by two tenths of one percent (.2%), up to a maximum of 1.75%, ending in 2028.
Minimum dues, also known as “non-working dues”, remain $18.25 per month as is consistent with current practice. For culinary and security members who do not select “summer deferral”, the District will deduct both working dues of 1.75% and non-working dues of $18.25 during the months of May and June. The $18.25 will be applied to July and August when you are not receiving a paycheck to keep you current with your dues thus avoiding the need for you to self-pay.
Remember, your Union dues directly empower your Union to represent you and your co-workers. The more resources your Union has, the more power and influence you and your co-workers have. Negotiating contracts, representing you and your co-workers day in and day out, costs real money. Everyone in the bargaining unit benefits from a strong, well-resourced Union.

March 13, 2025
IUOE Local 302 Member,
The current collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between our Union, IUOE Local 302 and Seattle Public Schools expires on August 31, 2025. The Local has begun preparing for the upcoming negotiations. An important part of that process is getting input from you, the membership, to ensure we understand your priorities.
As part of that process, we have prepared a survey to gather your input. Your input is critical for planning the Local’s bargaining strategy, and therefore it is very important every member participates in the survey we have prepared. The survey can be translated into Spanish, Chinese (Simplified), Vietnamese, and Amharic, just use the drop-down box in the upper right-hand corner to select your preferred language.
Access the survey here: https://forms.office.com/r/i9yZyYs9Dm.
We require you to provide your name as part of the survey. The reason is if we have questions regarding any of your responses, we can follow up with you. Please understand your individual responses to this survey will not be shared with the employer, and they will not know how, or whether you have responded. We will use your collective responses to assist in generating contract proposals for negotiations.
Please respond to the survey as soon as possible, but no later than April 15, 2025. If you prefer a paper copy of the survey, please do not hesitate to contact one of your Union Representatives, our contact information appears below.
Thank you in advance for completing the survey.
