One of the most important jobs in the Union belongs to the Steward.  Why? 

First, the steward ensured justice on the job by enforcing the contract.  Second, studies show that your co-workers' image of the Union -- and of the union movement in general -- evolves from the relationship with his or her Union Steward.  Third, because you are a leader in the workplace, you can exercise leadership in other areas like political issues, civil rights and community problems.  Fourth, performing your duties as Steward is the best possible training for other positions of responsibility in the Union.
